The Alconbury Sports & Social Club.......

The role of the Management Committee of Alconbury Sports & Social Club is to provide the recreational and social facilities for the local residents. The Committee intends to involve as wide a cross section of the Community as possible in the pursuit of this goal and membership of the organisation currently stands at approximately 500 members.

Alconbury Recreation Field was purchased in 1978 and a Business Plan created in 1998 was set against the achievements up to that date. The resourcefulness of the volunteers has enabled the provision of many improvements and additions to the Clubhouse in that original period.

Since 1998, the following has been achieved

Equipment Store
Cricket Sight-screens
Modern Play Area and Equipment
Additional drainage of playing field
Purchase of tractor and triple-mower
Refurbishment of Function Room
Replacement of Function Room Roof
New Boiler Room
Currently, a large scale project is underway to expand the facilities at the Alconbury Recreation Field, with funding secured by the Alconbury Recreation Field Charity and Alconbury Sports & Social Club, mainly from the Football Foundation. Extensive work is being carried out to construct new pitches and floodlit Multi Use Games Area on the recently acquired land adjacent to the present Field. Substantial improvements are also being carried out on the clubhouse changing facilities.

All of this has been possible because of the contribution of many partnership funders: the Football Foundation, Sport England, WREN, Huntingdonshire District Council and Alconbury Parish Council. The generosity of these bodies to match and exceed our own fund raising has provided the first class facilities on view today, which are the envy of many who come to “battle it” out in Alconbury.

But we're not stopping there... Next on the list are new toilets for the lounge, a cricket canopy and scorebox, refurbishment of the Function Room floor, tennis facilities and a bowling green.
